Silverfish and Fleas

Our new apartment was mostly clean when we first came here, but I promise we have not kept it that way. We did not, however, bring the fleas or the silverfish with us. Before we signed a lease, the realtor assured me that the previous tenants did not have pets, and I believed her. What I didn't realize was that the rest of the building does have pets. (With great sarcasm)Yippee.
So we track the fleas in from outside and I slowly work on killing them. My only successful method of flea killing involves drowning. Those buggers are tough but they can't swim, and they can't breathe underwater.
One day as I was busy drowning a flea and gloating as he died, Zeke was watching. He was very interested in what I was doing, but was too short to see. He ran and miraculously found one of his shoes and came back quickly showing me that he was ready to kill fleas too. I turned him loose on a silverfish that was stuck in the shower. It was fantastic.

I picture Tina setting the flea's little feet in concrete and dropping it into the East River ... I mean the sink, of course.

Does PETA care about fleas and silverfish?

You are probably opposed to chemical warfare against the critters. Chemicals used to work well for us. I don't know whether the effective substances have been banned for being too effective.

Oh dear. I'm sorry. How miserable. I hope you aren't being bitten... sigh. That's super cute about Zeke! Love it!

Since I don't think I've ever seen a Silverfish, I've looked it up on wikipedia and also found some interesting home remedies for Silverfish removal:

I remember reading an Amy Tan book (I can't remember which one) before moving to SoCal. It described one of the women in the book opening a box that held many memories of her mom. It said something like, streams of silverfish poured out of the box. At the time, I thought it was very poetical, with these silver colored fish representing memories or something like that.

Now, I know what silverfish are and they are definitely NOT poetical. Eww! Sorry about the infestation. We've been battling ants lately. Not fun.
