Red Tie

Last Sunday Zeke did not go to church in his pajamas. Gasp! Nor did he go to church in a playtime onesie. This time he wore a proper white shirt that actually buttons in the front, black pants, and a darling red tie. Check it out:
The shirt was not tucked in but, come on, he's a baby. The shirt even has little collar buttons (not buttoned in the above picture). He's growing up so fast!

Ready to Walk

Z has gotten really good at crawling but he is most excited about standing up. He will pull himself into a standing position using anything handy - stable or unstable. He also "walks" along furniture once he is standing up, especially if there is a piece of paper or a shoelace to motivate him. And the falling down part? No problem. We cheer when he falls so he won't be scared, but every now and then a legitimate owie occurs that gets better with a little love and lots of distraction.Yesterday Zeke went to Elders Quorum with Dad. There are so many small children attending our Elders Quorum that they put the chairs in a circle and put the children inside the circle to contain them all. (Sometimes I think they do this for entertainment as well.) Yesterday Zeke crawled around and tried to eat all the shoelaces of the men sitting in the circle (wish I had a picture!), and he used several pant legs as helps to stand up. Mike said that anytime he got a little nervous he would look back at Mike for reassurance and Mike would whisper "Come here..." while wiggling his finger. Zeke would laugh and then try harder to get away from Daddy.

Da Beach

Last night we went to the beach near our house for the very first time. It was lovely! Mike made a cool summer salad for dinner (yesterday was hot!) and we ate on the pedestrian path near the pier. Zeke ate applesauce and stars. He's crazy for stars. We walked around the pier and all the crazy, upscale shops close by and wondered how it was we came to live in such a place. Zeke was good in his stroller for a long time but he was most happy when we got him out and Mike carried him around in the front carrier. (Thanks for the loan, Nightingale and Khan!) I wish the picture wasn't blurry, but this was the best smile my camera caught:

Cousins

Last Sunday we traveled to Hometown again, this time to visit with the Westside Crew. It was a very noisy gathering. Z had a good time playing with Legoman's duplos - he gleefully pulled blocks out of the storage container and tasted each one. Some were worthy of additional tasting time, others were not. Z almost always has his mouth open nowadays:
(Forgive the red eye.)
Z also thought that Princess Pea was very interesting. He wanted very much to mash her face and I had to keep alert to stop that from happening. Princess Pea is only 2 months younger than Z, but two months is a big difference at this age.
Z has become a bit of a momma's boy lately. I am secretly pleased that he wants me to hold him and love him, but I am also determined to attend more play groups so he can get used to being around other people.

Up and Down

Problem solved.
For a while there Zeke was able to pull himself up on things (e.g. couches, the crib, people, etc.), but he had only one option for getting down: falling. As he is afraid of falling, this made him very determined to stay standing once he got up. But the problem is now solved as he has found a way of bending his knees and putting one hand out to brace himself as he lowers himself to the ground. Yea, Z!
