Cloth Nappies

Cloth diapers aren't what they used to be. I was almost 13 when my Mom had my brother, the Treat, and I saw first hand what cloth diapers were. There were pins and plastic cover pants and diaper services. Today I am experimenting with what they call "modern" cloth diapers, as modeled by Z:

This diaper has no pins and is an all-in-one, so putting it on was like using a disposable diaper. There's no diaper service in this experiment - just me and my washing machine. I'm really hoping that today is a non-BM day because I'm probably not physically or mentally prepared for pre-rinsing in the toilet and what to do after. But if the smell from the boy sleeping in my arms is any harbinger...I'm in for trouble.

Diaper Change #1 11:03 a.m.
Wet, not soiled.
Completely soaked through on Baby's right side. Significant quantity of liquid. Soaked me too.
Leak most likely came from bad positioning of diaper - bunched in leg area.
Changed Baby's outfit and diaper with more careful positioning around legs.

Triple Post!! Fatality!

These are some pretty cool diapers. I can't wait to get peed on tonight! sorry about the leak, but thanks for updating us.

He's such a cute boy, and you're so cute, too!

I tried his squash. It's really not that tasty. But the mashed bananas are super delicious. I don't know why he doesn't like them. He probably just wants us to be able to eat his leftovers. What a nice baby!

Diaper Change #2 1:57 p.m.
Wet, not soiled.
Soaked through on Baby's bottom. Where the snaps are. Did not soak me.
No idea where leak came from. Will change more often.
Dang! He looks so cute in the yellow diaper. =)

Diaper Change #3 3:45p.m.
Wet, not soiled.
Soaked through on Baby's bottom and front leg creases. Did not soak me. Not sure...maybe his legs aren't chunky enough to fill the gaps? Maybe a one-sized diaper doesn't really work?
We only have a set of three so I will wash and re-try.

You are brave for using cloth diapers. For all our desire to be eco-conscious, we couldn't bring ourselves to do cloth.

Back in the dark ages when we used the old-style cloth diapers with pins and plastic pants (and no diaper service after the first few weeks), getting the right size plastic pants was crucial to prevent leaks of all sorts. I don't think one size fits all.
